False recall and what it tells us about our memory

We rely on our memory to complete pretty much every task that we set ourselves to. But even with our complete reliance on this cognitive capability, it's only able to accurately recall about 50% of the time... the rest of the time, we fill in the blanks in our memory with whatever makes sense.

The incredible thing about this cognitive self-deception is we're so good at it that we don't know the difference between an accurate memory and false recall.
